The Perfect Leftover Ham Sandwich

When I decided to cook a half-spiral ham for just the Honey and me on Easter, I expected there to be a mountain of scrumptious leftovers. I did not anticipate using the entire rest of the ham to make these out-of-this-world Ham and Swiss Sandwiches.
However, mysterious things happen in the kitchen, and these sandwiches definitely happened. Three or four times.
With thick, spiral-cut ham slices, melted Swiss cheese, a good slather of mustard, and a healthy dollop of strawberry jam, these indulgent sandwiches have officially become our favorite way to use up leftover ham. Happy cooking!!

Description
The Perfect Leftover Ham Sandwich Recipe.
Ingredients
- 2 ciabatta rolls, or 4 slices of sourdough sandwich bread
- 4–6 slices, cooked spiral ham
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 Tbsp light mayonnaise
- 2 Tbsp strawberry preserves
Instructions
- Lightly toast the bread. Spread the mustard and mayonnaise on to the bottom slice of the bread and layer with the ham and cheese.
- Toast open-faced in a toaster oven at 400 degrees for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted. Watch the oven carefully so as not to burn the sandwiches.
- Meanwhile, spread the preserves on the top pieces of bread. Remove the sandwiches from the toaster oven and top with the remaining slices of bread. Serve immediately.
This is nothing short of amazing! I used some leftover smoked ham we had in the freezer from Easter along with sourdough hamburger buns, and freshly sliced Swiss cheese. It was so good, I’ll definitely remember this one later when I get out more of the ham leftovers!
Thank you so much, Sarah! It’s a simple combo, but so good 🥰
I’ll admit, I used cranberry sauce instead of strawberry jam and we only ever have sourdough bread around here. It was delicious! Pinned to make again!
This was one of the best ham sandwiches we have had. I baked a Carver ham and sliced it thin and I used Swiss cheese on one side and sharp cheddar on the other. The strawberry jam definitely works well the salty cheese and ham. Thank you so much for sharing!!
Thank you so much, Kathy!!
I just made this sandwich, it was absolutely delicious! Thanks for the recipe!
It sounds delicious, making my mouth water! I have left over ham, making this tonight!!
OMGoodness,Swiss cheese and strawberry preserves! WOW. Sounds fabulous! Going to try that, still have some ham leftover.
Thanks, Sue! I hope you like it!
Just made this for myself and my toddler and OMG this was delicious! I didn’t have Dijon so I used regular but my gosh the flavour combo of the mustard, to the ham, to the cheddar cheese ( I didn’t have Swiss on hand) and used a strawberry apple jam on the top bun and wow, I’ll make this every holiday or the occasion we have ham! Thanks for sharing your recipe!
Thank you so much, Mira!!
